What Is Residential Mental Health Care?

It is precisely what it sounds like – clients remain at the treatment center, where they not only live in a supportive atmosphere with peers, but also receive frequent support from qualified physicians, therapists, and other mental health professionals. It is one of the most intensive levels of care but it is far more comfortable than hospitalization because the environment is peacefully homelike as opposed to the possibly chaotic hospital wing.

We have all the resources individuals need for a successful recovery from mental health conditions, or a co-occurring disorder. Mental health clinicians and other support staff, including medical professionals, are usually on-site at the treatment center to provide a range of treatments, including therapy, detox, and medication assistance.

Our residential mental health in Florida offers a variety of traditional and experiential therapies and programs to address mental health concerns, including:

Mental Health Services

Each patient comes to our facility with a unique set of mental health disorders and addiction issues. To ensure they receive the treatment needed to successfully recover, we offer a variety of traditional and experiential therapies for any diagnosis.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

Residents work with a counselor to process traumatic events and reimagine these memories in a healthy way. After about one to five sessions, clients may no longer feel intense distress when thinking about certain memories, giving them the ability to heal and move on.

Anxiety Management

Clients have the option to work one-on-one with clinical staff or attend group therapy to manage beliefs or behaviors that cause or enhance anxiety. Support groups are designed to allow residents to share their experiences and contribute to the healing of their peers. This therapy is meant to address client concerns related to anxiety and help them find new and effective ways to reduce their symptoms.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

A form of psychotherapy, CBT is meant to help residents find healthy ways to change their dysfunctional thoughts, behaviors, and emotions and the way they’re processed. This is done by challenging and uprooting negative and irrational beliefs to reduce any symptoms of a mental health disorder. Stemming from the belief that a person’s thoughts and perceptions influence their behavior, the therapeutic activities individuals undergo are meant to help get their life back on track.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Our treatment center also offers EMDR, evidence-based psychotherapy that helps clients process traumatic events and the intense emotions linked to those memories. This short-term residential treatment is meant to provide a quick and effective method of reworking distorted perceptions and disturbing memories.

Equine-Assisted Therapy

A type of animal-assisted therapy, equine-assisted therapy helps residents form connections with horses to improve their physical and mental health. This treatment enhances an individual’s emotional regulation, sense of responsibility, and self-confidence, leading to the development of healthier coping skills for dealing with hardships.

Recreational Therapy

Recreational therapy addresses the needs of an individual struggling with a mental health disorder or addiction by using an activity-based approach. These activities include:

  • Kayaking
  • Gardening
  • Creating art
  • Taking care of animals

Through recreational therapy, residents learn healthy coping skills to deal with stressful situations. It can also increase self-awareness and confidence, leading to more life enjoyment and better socialization skills.
